Moving Along

So it’s been exactly 31 days since I took the LSATs and sadly, I have not been able to shake my coffee addiction.  I developed this nasty habit while staying up til 2 or 3 in the morning, night after night, trying to finish my voluminous mounds of TestMasters homework . . . those nights are behind me but I’m left with this strange dependency on caffeine to get me through the morning.  I’m definitely gonna try and get to sleep early tonight.

Anyhow, now that the LSAT is behind me, I’m starting to get working on my law school applications.  I’ve begun reaching out to individuals for Letters of Recommendation and I’ve submitted a request to Stanford that they send a copy of my academic transcript to LSAC.  My next step is to provide rough outlines / themes / idea-starters for my Letter of Recommendation writers and begin work on my own Personal Statement.  That, in particular, is gonna be tough because there’s such a variety of what’s allowed (topic, length, font size, etc.) for a Personal Statement across most of the top law schools.

Speaking of which, I think I’ve narrowed down my list of target law schools.  After getting my LSAT score, I’d initially thought that I would be able to winnow down my list, believing that I was now in a stronger admissions position and didn’t need to try and solicit acceptance from such a large number of  schools.  That’s what I thought, at least.  What actually took place was that I sat down with my list and became overwhelmed with feelings of, “But what if THEY don’t accept me either?!?!  What if I don’t get into ANY law schools?!?!” And then, like a shopaholic who’s not sure if those cute shoes will still be on sale next week, I managed to make my list of target law schools even broader.  Here’s my list as it currently stands:

- Yale
- Stanford
- Harvard
- NYU
- Columbia
- UPenn
- Kal Berkeley
- U Chicago
- UCLA
- Cornell
- Boston U
- USC
- Northwestern

For those of you counting, that makes 3 New York schools, 4 California Schools, 2 in Boston and 2 in Chicago along with schools in Connecticut and Pennsylvania.  I think that if I end up at any of the first three schools on the list then I’ll be happy.  I will likely have to reduce the number of schools on this list, though.  With each school charging between $75 and $100 for applications, I’d be looking at over $1,000 with my current list.  I mean, it’d be money well spent but still.  Anyone have any suggestions on altering my list?
